Anwar El-SadatSuperimposed over his smile of victory, I drew the shadows of his death mask. The day of his greatest triumph was also that of his ultimate defeat: but they were dogs of war of a very different sort that brought Anwar El-Sadat down. Beneath the grizzled moustache, his teeth gleam grimly. I imagined Sadat as the king in a very intricate game of chess. October was both check and mate.
