Child's play?

Well not quite, and certainly not for a growing number of the world's children. Almost a decade after the Convention on the Rights of the Child was unanimously adopted by the UN General Assembly children continue to suffer and die, silent victims of economic exploitation, famine and war.

In Bosnia, left, where a girl sells her toys on the streets of Sarajevo, indeed all over the world, the internationally acclaimed photo-journalist Reza has been capturing their plight. Meanwhile, in Egypt, Mrs Suzanne Mubarak inaugurated the ten-day National Children's Festival on Saturday, and on Tuesday opened the 15th Children's Book Fair, the only event of its kind in the Middle East.
