King Hussein's face seems oddly bare, almost transparent. His treatment has robbed him of his hair and beard, leaving him open to scrutiny. Only his glasses offer protection. Yet his smile remains, unshakably confident. He is not a military man -- not to mention a monarch -- for nothing, and recent events have shown he is still very much in control.
