Esmat Dawistashi PORT SAID is having its very own biennale, concurrently with that of Cairo. Over 140 artists, with over 250 paintings, engravings, sculptures and ceramic works between them, are participating. Eissa Ahmed was awarded the grand prize for his dramatic painting which deals with the suffering of the masses. First prize for ceramics was awarded to Mohamed El-Sherbini for his series of black clay pots.

The Atelier du Caire hosts an exhibition of sculptures, paintings and drawings by graduates of the Faculty of Art Education, most of which combine a certain originality with the influence of older artists. The drawings by Mohamed Ezzat Ismail are surrealistic, Sayida Mahmoud Khalil's abstract expressionist bronze sculptures show the influence of Mahmoud Shoukri, and the landscapes by Hani Mohamed Rizq are in the style of Gazbia Sirry.

Esmat Dawistashi, an artist known for his love of the experimental, is exhibiting his most recent works under the title "The Palm" at Salama Gallery. They can be considered a sequel to the work he exhibited several years ago on the theme of the human palm -- the palm which struggles, the palm of the worker, the human palm.
