SUBWAY FAILURE
The power network serving Cairo's underground metro line broke down this week, disrupting railway traffic and causing long delays for three days. Officials blamed the failure on rainfall over the capital last Friday. Normal service on the line connecting Helwan in the south and El-Marg in the north was resumed Monday night. The failure caused commuters to switch to cars, buses and taxi-cabs, making the usual traffic congestion even worse. A journey that normally takes 20 minutes during the rush hours would take at least an hour and a half.
