By Rania KhallafMRS SUZANNE MUBARAK, chairwoman of the Red Crescent Society, inspected on Sunday the first phase of development of a shantytown adjacent to the society's premises in the Zeinhom district of Cairo.

The inspection visit was part of a national campaign for comprehensive development of urban communities. In the first phase, the governorate of Cairo has demolished several shacks in the area and constructed in their place eight residential buildings. Twenty-one other buildings will be constructed in the area at a cost of LE12 million.
Mrs Mubarak suggested that five more buildings be erected at a cost of LE2 million. She met with governorate officials and investors to discuss work plans and the introduction of social, educational and health services in the area. She also reviewed the achievements of the Red Crescent Society with its board of directors.
These achievements include the establishment of three blood banks, blood transfusion centres in Cairo, Alexandria and Tanta, a children's hospital in Giza and a Red Crescent hospital in Qena.
