Around the galleries
Springtime and the bougainvillaea on the banks of the Nile are in bloom once again -- the ideal time for Aswan's Fourth International Sculpture Symposium. With Adam Hunein in the driving seat, and a chunk of granite as a gift from the Aswan governorate to each participating artist, the event brings together sculptors from Egypt, Czechoslovakia, Peru, India, Mexico, Japan, China and Kenya.
On show at the gallery attached to the Faculty of Applied Arts are 40 textile designs by Ahdaf Gamal. Though produced with the help of computer software, they are nevertheless quite original in conception, as well as rather daring in their colour scheme.
