Rematch in September

EVANDER Holyfield and Lennox Lewis probably will fight their rematch in September, with both boxers guaranteed $15 million, promoter Don King has said. Appearing on Fox News Channel at his Florida home, King said he had signed contracts with both fighters for the rematch of their draw on 13 March for the unified heavyweight title. He said that both fighters wanted to fight in September and that he would try to accommodate them. No specific date or site was set. The draw left both fighters with their titles; Lewis as the World Boxing Championship champion and Holyfield as the World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation champion. The $15 million guarantee represents a big increase for Lewis and a cut of $5 million for Holyfield. Boxing's three governing bodies had ordered a rematch within three months. Lewis was widely believed to have won the 12-round bout at Madison Square Garden, sparking three investigations in New York. US Judge Eugenia Williams scored the fight for Holyfield 115-113, South African judge Stan Christodoulou had it for Lewis, 116-113. Larry O'Connell of England scored it 115-115. .
