To mark his 75th birthday Khan Al-Maghrabi Gallery is hosting a mini-retrospective of Saad Kamel's oeuvre, including paintings, textiles and mixed-media work. The show effectively maps a varied artistic trajectory that has been characterised by alternating phases of experimentation and reconstruction, the one constant being a continuing obsession with popular art and with the synthesising of folkloric motif with innovative techniques.
Al-Hanager plays host to recent works by Ahmed Shiha, multi-dimensional pieces that mix drawing, painting and sculptural techniques yet which nonetheless owe many of their formal and thematic concerns to ancient Egyptian artistic practice.
