On the sidelines
AWAY from politics and economics, President Hosni Mubarak took time out of his hectic Asia tour schedule, which began on 5 April, to pay a number of courtesy calls. Mrs Suzanne Mubarak, accompanying her husband to China, South Korea and Japan, was also warmly welcomed by the host countries.From top: Mubarak places a stick of incense in an urn at the Seoul National Cemetery to honour South Koreans killed while serving their country; Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko receive the Mubaraks on Monday; Mrs Mubarak is awarded an honorary doctorate from the Seoul-based Ewha Women's University for her efforts in improving the status of women in Egypt, upgrading education, as well as mother and child healthcare; in China, Mrs Mubarak was granted the title 'professor-counsellor' from Shanghai University for her role in launching the "Reading for All" programme as well as the establishment of numerous libraries in Egypt
