by Ayman GeorgeA CONFERENCE was held in Cairo last week to introduce new Java technologies to Egypt. It was attended by 200 specialists, mostly programmers.
Twelve experts from American Sun Microsystems, the conference sponsor, explained how the Java computing language enables the development of applications that can run on any computing platform. Java is a very basic, compact technology which has had a great beneficial effect on the World-Wide Web and business in general.
The conference concentrated on the new features of Java: Java2 softwere, the Solaris7 operating environment and Jini technology.
Java2 softwere features a more flexible security model, adding new capabilities to make the process of developing technology-based Java applications.
The Solaris7 operating environment is the premiere environment for network computing and is year 2000-safe.
Jini is one of the most exciting developments in technology. Built on Java technology, it is designed to enable users to simply connect any number of digital devices, and to access those valuable services provided by rich dynamic communities of systems: televisions, digital cameras, fax machines, cell phones, and even smart card readers.
The Sun Microsystems will hold a three-day international symposium in Paris next Tuesday to discuss Java solutions.
