Around the galleriesEIGHT of Alexandria's most talented young artists exhibit their works at the Alexandria Atelier. These include daring engravings by Mahmoud Barakat, paintings inspired by Egyptian myths by Emad Abdel-Wahab, densely symbolic paintings by Zakaria Soliman, sculptures in iron and wood by Mohamed Amr Tousson, Hani El-Sayid Ahmed and Hazem Abdel-Khaleq, and photographs by Sabri Abu Ogeila and Mohamed Ismail.
Engravings by Magdi Abdel-Aziz are on exhibit at the Gezira Art Centre. In these, the artist presents a contemporary vision, aided and abetted by the latest technological developments in engraving. Calligraphic motifs, the multiple concave and convex levels of canvas surface, the deployment of a variety of engraving techniques within a single work, together with an inventive use of oxides not just for colouristic ends but also to manipulate texture, combine to produce unique manuscript-like works which are a pleasure to behold.
