EIGHT of Alexandria's most talented young artists exhibit their works at the Alexandria Atelier. These include daring engravings by Mahmoud Barakat, paintings inspired by Egyptian myths by Emad Abdel-Wahab, densely symbolic paintings by Zakaria Soliman, sculptures in iron and wood by Mohamed Amr Tousson, Hani El-Sayid Ahmed and Hazem Abdel-Khaleq, and photographs by Sabri Abu Ogeila and Mohamed Ismail.
Engravings by Magdi Abdel-Aziz are on exhibit at the Gezira Art Centre. In these, the artist presents a contemporary vision, aided and abetted by the latest technological developments in engraving. Calligraphic motifs, the multiple concave and convex levels of canvas surface, the deployment of a variety of engraving techniques within a single work, together with an inventive use of oxides not just for colouristic ends but also to manipulate texture, combine to produce unique manuscript-like works which are a pleasure to behold.
