DISTINGUISHED PERFORMANCE: Defence Minister Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi praised the performance of the armed forces while attending "Excel Day" ceremonies staged by four military departments: the signal corps, the northern military zone, border guards and the saiqa (storm-troopers).
"The armed forces are keen on modernising and developing themselves in all fields in order to keep abreast with the times and protect national achievements," Tantawi said.
He watched military shows including a self-defence exercise, operations behind "enemy" lines and an attempt by helicopter-borne troops to liberate a "captured" building.
"I urge the armed forces to maintain this distinguished standard of performance," Tantawi told the forces.
