PICASSO Gallery is currently hosting works by five self-taught artists. Harraniya-born Ragab Abdel-Fattah exhibits batiks, batik being where his creative heart lies, and one kelim, testimony to the skills learned and nurtured at the Wissa Wassef School. The 12 paintings on show by Salah Hassouna derive their imagery from folkloric tales, powerfully bending proportions to serve expressionistic and dramatic purposes. The ceramic vessels by Ibrahim Abbas imaginatively disregard conventional notions of the genre while the ceramic sculptures by caricaturist Ahmed Said are scathingly satirical and the enchanting gypsum sculptures by Mahmoud El-Labban have a noble, epic air about them.
