OIL PAINTINGS by Riham El-Sherbini, celebrating the beauty and majesty of Islamic architecture, recently occupied the Opera House Gallery. Details such as a mashrabiya in Fatimid Cairo, half hidden by curtains, were rendered with great charm.
Also at the Opera Gallery, Mohamed El-Alawi displayed a number of works organised according to theme. El-Alawi is a sculptor who develops both symbolic and straightforward ideas into concrete objects, creating an interesting dialogue between mass and void in his work. The exhibition includes a series of works centering on the human figure and that of an eagle, endlessly engaged in alternating states of conflict and harmony.
