The Palace of Arts, in the Opera House grounds, hosted the second collective exhibition of Egyptian cartoons, bringing together the work of 60 artists, including Saroukhan, Rakha, Salah Jahin, Zohdi, Effat, Mustafa Hussein and Gomaa, alongside an impressive line up of younger artists who work for Egyptian magazines and newspapers.
The exhibition reinforces something that we have always known -- that the cartoon has a long and distinguished history in Egypt and is certainly one of the most pervasive art forms of the current century. And the success of this second collective exhibition testifies to the way in which this popular form has shifted into the mainstream of artistic activity. Prodigious amounts of talent, and quite wonderful draughtsmanship.
