Accor-Europcar accord
AN AGREEMENT was signed recently between the Accor hotel company and Europcar. The three-year agreement commits Europcar to provide its services to the customers and guests of Accor hotels at the best prices in the market.

The two companies will also cooperate in organising trips for their hotel guests especially in South Sinai, Luxor and Aswan. They will exchange training expertise besides designing a joint marketing plan in order to attract more tourists to Egypt.

The Accor group owns 50 per cent of international Europcar's stocks. Europcar, on the other hand, is considered one of the biggest rent-a-car companies in the world and number one in Europe with a fleet of around 160,000 cars.

Club Cards in Dahab
THE HILTON Dahab resort is offering guests a Club Card that gives discounts on food and beverage consumed at the hotel, as well as access to the pool, beach and discotheque. This is a new concept in Dahab, but common in Hilton properties in Sinai and the Red Sea.

'Summer is wonderful'
A LONG article about Egypt was published this month in one of the leading Ukrainian travel magazines. The article entitled "Summer is wonderful in Egypt" talked about Egypt, its monuments and the variety of tourist attractions.

The writer of the article urged Ukrainians to travel to Egypt now as there are many events waiting for them, such as a shopping and tourism festival that is being held this month as well as the opera Aida performance due in October. Furthermore, Egypt's millennium celebrations will start in December.

Song festival
THE FIFTH round of the Song Festival will be held from 20 to 28 August. About 11 Arab countries and 17 from outside the region will take part in the event. Moreover, it is expected that a number of international troupes and singers will participate such as Modern Talking and Lionel Richie. Arab singers such as Kazem El-Saher, Magda El-Roomi and Mohamed Abdou will also perform.

"This festival is a manifestation of making use of arts for the sake of tourism. For that reason, all the material concerning the festival should be ready so that travel agents can market it abroad in good time," said Dr Mamdouh El-Beltagui, the minister of tourism.

New road shows
AN INTERNATIONAL "road show" to new destinations is the focus of a report prepared by the Egyptian Travel Agents Association (ETAA). It has been submitted to the Ministry of Tourism and deals with the preparation of new road shows to destinations that have never been included in previous Egyptian marketing campaigns. "We suggest a trip to Australia and New Zealand in August that will be followed by a trip to the Czech Republic, Hungary, Canada and the USA in September," said Elhamy El-Zayyat, head of the ETAA.

He said that the US visit would take in big states that were never included in past trips, like Texas and Georgia. "We are not going to visit New York or Chicago this time," he said.

The final trip of the tour will be in early December and take in China and South Korea.

The road shows will include Egyptian tourist officials as well as travel agents and tourist experts, archaeologists (who will explain the latest excavations in Egypt) and a traditional musician.

Fly into the millennium
BRITISH Airways is the only British carrier to confirm that it will be flying as the world enters the 21st century.

Half a million reservations have already been made on the airline's 167-strong route network for the New Year holiday season. Barbados, New York, Johannesburg and Los Angeles are the most popular destinations so far.

"We have put in four years of meticulous planning to ensure we can fly millions of our customers to where they want to be to enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime occasion," said Bob Ayling, British Airways chief executive. "We will be ready for the date change and, as ever, will only fly where and when it is safe to do so and where there's demand."

New route to Alexandria
SAUDI Airlines has opened a new route from Saudi Arabia to Alexandria. To mark the event, a celebration was held in Alexandria at the Sheraton Montazah and was attended by the governor, General Abdel-Salam El-Mahgoub, Dr Khaled Ibn Bakr, general manager of Saudi Airlines and Abdalla Al-Bahrani, head of the Saudi Airlines in Egypt.

Dr Ibn Bakr said the new route would increase the number of visitors exchanged between Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

A new Saudi Airlines reservation office has opened in the Ramleh area of Alexandria.
