On-line: safari
http://touregypt.net/wildegyptThis site is for adventurers who would like to tour Egypt's wildlife and go on safaris in the land of the Pharaohs without moving from the comfort of their homes.
It provides on-line adventures all over Egypt, or as the site puts it, "it provides an on-line safari for all ages. Prepare yourself for a fantastic adventure as we go in search of Egypt's colourful wildlife, all from the safety and comfort of your terminal."
The site's layout is admirable, decorated with colourful photos of animals, plants and fish.
The site is divided into three main pages: Nile, Land and Red Sea.
Click on the Nile section and you will see photos of the River Nile, birds, crocodiles and fish. Photos are accompanied by useful information about the creatures, like the Nile crocodiles, that have not been seen around the Nile for many years, though recently they have started making a comeback behind the Aswan Dam.
The site says, "Nile crocodiles range all over Africa, eating almost anything including each other. Hatchlings eat small fish and insects, adults go after turtles and baboons. They live in large 'communities' of several dozen crocodiles, but even there they tend to leave each other alone except during a 'feeding frenzy' when they all unite to take down a much larger animal."
On moving to the Land section, the Internet user could see creatures such as wild cats, snakes, as well as a couple of surprises. This section is interesting in that it stresses the fact that Egypt is a land of contrast. "Just beyond the fertile Nile Valley is a burning desert. The desert is parched, yet snow can be found on the mountains, and in between these extremes of heat and cold, the Nile Valley blooms and flourishes. Yet these three environments share one thing in common: an abundance of animal life. Snakes and scorpions call the desert areas home, while the weasel and the mongoose can be found darting under cars in the heart of cities."
There is an abundance of photos of all land creatures that adventurers can see, such as camels, sand cats, desert foxes and reptiles, such as snakes and scorpions.
The third section is dedicated to the Red Sea and its treasures. Like other sections, it is full of photos of different species of Red Sea fish, as well as coral reefs. The section is also filled with information about dugong, coral reefs and other animals living underwater.
