Summer in Oman

Oman is being marketed as a relaxing short-break destination and summer getaway retreat through new holiday packages launched by InterContinental Hotels and Resorts.

Special rates and added benefits at four superb beach-side hotels are the latest measures in InterContinental's drive to attract more leisure travellers to the Sultanate of Oman.

Till 30 September, guests will be able to take advantage of special all-inclusive low rates at the Hotel InterContinental, the Al-Bustan Palace InterContinental and the Gulf Forum Hotel, all in the Omani capital of Muscat, as well as at the Al-Sawadi Forum Resort.

Northern capital

A monthly Ukrainian tourist magazine has published an article about Alexandria entitled, "Alexandria, the northern capital." The article gives an overview of Alexandria's tourist and archaeological sites, specifically the lighthouse that was once among the seven ancient wonders of the world, the historic library, as well as the beautiful beaches, hotels and this year's tourism and shopping festival.

Pretoria festival

The Egyptian embassy in Pretoria, capital of South Africa, in cooperation with the Egyptian Tourist Authorities and EgyptAir, held an Egyptian tourist cultural day, during which a big buffet of traditional Egyptian food was offered to guests.

To celebrate the occasion, the Pretoria Sheraton also invited Cairo Sheraton's most famous and qualified cooks to hold a huge open buffet of traditional food. The cooks were accompanied by a folkloric dancing troupe.

The event aimed at strengthening touristic ties between the two countries and was an invitation for more cultural tourist exchanges between the countries of the African continent.

Millennium offers

Hilton International resorts in Egypt, along the coastal line of the Red Sea in Sinai and Hurghada, are all offering theme parties to celebrate the millennium.

In Sharm El-Sheikh in South Sinai, the Hilton Fayrouz resort and Hilton Sharm Dreams invite guests to join in a "Lawrence of Arabia" theme party at the Starlight Mountain site, five kilometres away from Na'ama Bay. The decorations include scenes from the movie, with three screens running a silent version of the original film. Upon arrival, guests will be ushered through laser shows. Inside a Bedouin tent, each guest will enjoy sumptuous oriental and international buffet dishes, as well as an oriental and Bedouin dance show.

In Hilton Dahab resort, a gala night will revolve around the theme, "Cairo 1900". The celebration will take place in the resort's courtyard and will feature an exotic array of international and oriental foods, in addition to live entertainment, a laser show and an oriental dance show.

Nuweiba Hilton Coral Resort will feature: "Bedouin into the millennium". The main dinning room will be an oriental tent, with the dinner buffet consisting of culinary delights from Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Lebanon and the Arabian Peninsula.

Hurghada Hilton resort will offer a "Steps into the centuries" theme party. In a royal tent by the swimming pool, four eras of Egyptian history will be featured: Pharaonic, Greek, Islamic and modern times.

Hurghada Hilton Plaza will offer its guests a "King Tut back to the future" theme party. It revolves around the fantasy that King Tutankhamun has come back to celebrate the new millennium. The gala night will include a King Tut parade, fantasy walking from the times of the Pharaohs to the present, a gourmet open buffet and oriental belly dancing.
