Around the galleries
THE GEZIRA Arts Centre is currently hosting a group show of recent works by Gamil Shafiq, Fathi Afifi, Hamdi Atteya and Safwat El-Qadi.
Safwat El-Qadi
Shafiq shows in the Ragheb Ayyad Gallery, exhibiting driftwood pieces collected, treated and painted by the artist. Afifi's new black and white impressionistic works hanging in the Ahmed Sabri Gallery also mark a new stylistic departure for the artist. Atteya displays post-modern sculptures in the Kamal Khalifa Gallery, his first major exhibition since the Venice Biennale, while El-Qadi's miniature mosaics, in Al-Hussein Fawzi Gallery, are characterised by a minimalist approach to colour and design.
