Egypt Region International Economy Opinion Culture Focus Features Profile Travel Living Sports People Time Out Chronicles Cartoons Letters NASSER MEMORIAL: On behalf of President Hosni Mubarak, Defence Minister Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi attended a memorial ceremony yesterday marking the 29th anniversary of the death of President Gamal Abdel-Nasser. Tantawi placed a wreath, bearing Mubarak's name, the supreme commander of the armed forces, on Nasser's tomb and met with family members of the former president. He conveyed the esteem of President Mubarak and the Egyptian people for the great role Nasser played in the service of the homeland and the Arab nation. Tantawi and Nasser's sons recited Al-Fatiha (the exordium of the Holy Qur'an) so that his soul may rest in peace.
