Mohamed Abdel-MoneimTHIS year’s winner of the Youth Salon Jury Award (LE 1,500) is Mohamed Abdel-Moneim, who has already reaped six awards in previous Youth Salons. This year’s prize was awarded for his painting Energy. To the right, the work includes inscriptions and slogans, some of which are obvious and some difficult to decipher. The artist also includes labels of famous brands of tea, mineral water, chewing-gum and other consumer products. The left of the painting depicts a Nubian female as a half-naked belly-dancer swaying her arms against a backdrop of distorted hieroglyphs.
The Youth Salon is at the Palace of Art in the Opera House Grounds.
