It may be a historical paradox, but the 1973 October War -- the anniversary of which Egypt celebrated yesterday-- marks the beginning of a new stage of Egyptian-US ties. No sooner had the guns fallen silent than Kissinger came to town, full diplomatic ties were restored and over a quarter of a century of a very strong, if often turbulent, bilateral relationship was set in motion.
