* Our very own Sports Page Editor and dear friend Inas Mazhar was married this week to Ihab El-Sharqawi, another member of Al-Ahram family: Ihab works for Al-Ahram Advertising Agency and the rumour has it that the two met at one of the sporting events for which Al-Ahram Organisation is now rightly famous.
Family and friends, many from Al-Ahram Weekly, of course (I noticed in particular our smiling Editor-in-Chief Hosny Guindy, all our sports reporters, and the members of our layout department affectionately surrounding the new bride) celebrated at the Mövenpick Hotel near Cairo Airport, where other guests included Abdel-Moneim Emara, former head of the Supreme Council of Youth and Sports and Hassan Mustafa, president of the Egyptian Handball Federation. The extended Al-Ahram family was well-represented by Essam Abdel-Moneim, Hassan El-Mistikawi and Mahmoud El-Khatib. The charming zaffa was animated by young ballet dancers, Asmahan, the Argentinian belly dancer, and pop singers Hisham Abbas and Khaled Ali. The happy couple will be honeymooning in Hurghada.

* Well, dears, not everybody is mourning the passing of years! I just found out that the AUC Press, pleased as punch to have turned just 40, is planning a whole year of celebrations. Fancy that! For starters, last Monday, the Press family regaled an impressive audience with a storytelling event, Hakawi, which took place in the fountain area of the university main campus. Mahmoud El-Lozy, who always delights his many fans with his theatrical performances when he is not teaching the art to would-be actors and playwrights, read from The Days by Taha Hussein, while Sherine El-Ansari, in full Oriental attire, gave a highly original rendition of Naguib Mahfouz's Arabian Nights and Days, The Arabian Nights and The Tale of the Shipwrecked Sailor. She left the stage only to be replaced once more by Mahmoud, who this time read passages from Youssef Idris's City of Love and Ashes and ended with a short extract from Naguib Mahfouz's Miramar. Nabila Akl and Aleya Serour, who organised the event, were quite pleased with its resounding success.
