AIDA, ACT FOUR: Traitor, traitor scream the assembled political and religious establishment of Memphis as they descend yet another grand staircase, and so Rhadames' fate is sealed, literally so, for he will be entombed alive. Yet another general bites the dust, though the thankless task of soldiering must go on.
Tuesday saw the opening night of Aida, magnificently lit, and with the great Pyramids of Giza forming the breathtaking backdrop to Verdi's perennially popular masterpiece.
Conducted by Patrick Fournillier, and with an international cast, performances will continue until 17 October.
