AL-AHRAM Organisation issued a new book this week entitled Mubarak: The Man, the Human Being and the Journey -- a photo record. The 336-page book compiles rare and previously unpublished photographs depicting President Hosni Mubarak's public and private life.
Through a variety of sources, Al-Ahram gathered thousands of rare photographs of the president and chose 512 to publish in the 23-chapter album. Photos begin at the house where Mubarak was born and spent his childhood, cover his years as an air force commander, vice-president and finally chief executive. The glossy photo album also shows pictures of Mubarak the family man, with Mrs Suzanne Mubarak, his sons Gamal and Alaa, and grandson Mohamed.
Al-Ahram had previously published two books on former presidents Gamal Abdel-Nasser and Anwar El-Sadat posthumously, but decided to change its policy by publishing the Mubarak book two months after the president was sworn in for a fourth term.
In the introduction, Ibrahim Nafie, Al-Ahram Organisation's board chairman and Al-Ahram chief editor, writes that the book is "a show of loyalty from a noble people to their leader".
The book of portraits, available since Tuesday, is LE40 paperback, LE50 hardback.
