Youssef Francis
AT THE Khan El-Maghrabi Gallery in Zamalek Youssef Francis veteran writer, artist, illustrator and filmmaker shows recent works, large oil paintings depicting winter. His trademark female figures and faces have been abandoned in favour of an impassioned depiction of the sea, in which, paradoxically, he still paints women who this time assume the guise of mermaids.
At the Salama Gallery in Mohandessin, on the other hand, two well-established academics exhibit their work. Farouq Shehata and Hazim Fathallah exhibit lithographs as well as black-and-white and multicoloured paintings which together constitute an unusually refreshing and upbeat experience.Reviewed by Nagwa El-Ashri
