Outside the Alexandria Biennale and the 26th General National Exhibition, many galleries in Cairo and Alexandria have been thoroughly busy since the start of Ramadan. The Safarkhan Gallery, for one, hosts the latest works of Raouf Raafat, an artist who has consistently transcended himself, showing significant signs of development with each new exhibit of his paintings. Raafat is concerned with social issues and uses his art to promote better awareness. This time round he brings to mind the work of the late sculptor Kamal Khalifa, who exhibits alongside him. Without missing out on credibility or individuality, the paintings on show convey the same expressive charge and the same astonishing capacity for realism.
