The two villas of the famous Egyptian theatrical artist Youssef Wahby in Giza will be the centre-piece of a new hotel, Sheraton Royal Gardens, that will be open by January 2000 at the cost of $35 million.The two villas, as well as a billiard hall and a cinema, owned by the famous artist, will be preserved as they are and will be surrounded by a 160-room hotel and a tropical garden with exotic plants and water courses. The hotel is situated between the Pyramids and Faisal roads. Sheraton Royal Gardens will be the tenth of the chain in Egypt.
Dreaming of Sharm
Two new Hilton hotels -- Hilton Sharm Dreams and Hilton Waterfalls -- are due to open soon in Sharm El-Sheikh. The 314-room Hilton Sharm Dreams will open its doors this month and will be the second Hilton property in Sharm, commanding a central position in Naama Bay, with easy accessibility to the Fayrouz Hilton resort. Facilities include seven swimming pools, two tennis courts, a squash court, a volleyball court and games room, as well as nine dining and entertainment options. The Hilton Waterfalls -- also scheduled to operate this month -- will be a 252-room hotel situated in newly developed Ras Umm Sid. It commands a prime location, descending in terraces along the cliff leading to the beach. "We are delighted to be extending our presence in Sharm El-Sheikh and look forward to opening these two exciting new resorts," said Ahmed El-Nahhas, president for the Middle East and Africa at Hilton.Red Sea promotion
An article in the well-known travel magazine, TTG, featured the Red Sea resorts in Egypt. Entitled "Thomson adds the Red Sea to its programmes," the article stressed that the Red Sea is regarded as among the most popular winter resorts in Egypt. Thomson, one of the most important British travel agencies, recently published a travel catalogue that included the tourist villages in Hurghada.Japanese fair
An Egyptian tourist delegation headed by Adel Abdel-Aziz, the head of the Egyptian Tourist Authority (ETA), flew to Japan to contribute to Jata, the Japanese tourist fair. Egypt had a big booth on an area of 180 square metres where about 20 Egyptian hotels and travel agencies showed their products. Worthy of note is that 40,877 Japanese tourists visited Egypt in the period from January to October 1999, spending about 166,700 tourist nights.Beautifying Cairo
An environmental week was organised by El-Gezira Sheraton hotel in collaboration with Cairo governorate, Palace restaurant, Nile Valley Tours, and AR publications. The programme was carried out in the area running from Al-Galaa Bridge to Qasr Al-Nil Bridge and included repaving the streets, repainting the sidewalks and passenger signs, doubling the number of dust bins and the general cleaning up of the area.
