BIRDS OF A FEATHER:
The official opening last Saturday of a Roman villa in Alexandria generated great excitement, offering as it did a rare chance to picture life -- specifically, the lifestyle of a wealthy urban family -- in Egypt under Roman rule. The villa, probably built during Hadrian's reign, was restored between 1998 and '99. It was found during excavations in the Kom Al-Dikka area, which lies in the heart of modern Alexandria.
