Nagui Kamel
Works by Salah Jahin, Hassan Fouad, Bahgat Othman, Youssef Kamel and Georges Bahgory, among others, will be permanently on show in the new exhibition space at Rose El-Youssef, opened last week in the presence of Prime Minister Atef Ebied and a number of the country’s leading artists and journalists. What this grand old institution has done for Egyptian artists through the years is arguably comparable to all of Cairo’s galleries combined; and the benefit has been mutual, since these artists’ paintings, drawings and cartoons have for long graced and dignified the institution’s variously popular magazines and publications. This positive initiative will finally make it possible for readers to contemplate the works in their original form.
