Osama Nashid
CAIRO Atelier hosts the work of a young and previously unknown artist Osama Nashid whose portrayals of the Nile and the simple lives of the fishermen who inhabit it are extremely impressive. These drawings, most of which are skillfully executed in ink, depict not only the river banks and the fishermen but also, crucially, their surroundings: the boats, the felluccas, the trees are realistic enough to be instantly recognisable but nonetheless imbued with Nashid's own peculiar vision, slightly simplified, with distorted perspectives. The result is a profound and enjoyable gallery-going experience.
