Violent street protests erupted in Bangladesh (right) and other parts of South Asia ahead of the visit to the Sub-Continent by United States President Bill Clinton.
Clinton is scheduled to visit India, Pakistan and Bangladesh next week. In India, Harkrishan Singh Surjeet, the secretary general of India's Communist Party warned that the, "first day of Clinton's visit would be observed as a national day of protest against US imperialism."
Clinton reiterated his offer to mediate in the dispute between India and Pakistan over Kashmir. India is opposed to third party mediation.
