President Hosni Mubarak received on Monday a delegation of the Jewish European Conference (JEC). Headed by JEC Chairman Henri Hagdenberg, the delegates told the president of their interest in promoting the concept of peace at the grassroots level.
"We are not here to talk about the peace process. We are not here to negotiate. We are here to say that we, the Jews, are interested in peace and that we want to turn the cold peace into a warm peace," Hagdenberg told reporters, following a meeting with Foreign Minister Amr Moussa.
Hagdenberg's JEC has 30 member European organisations and is closely associated with the influential World Jewish Council.
Hagdenberg, who visited Egypt twice last year, has told Egyptian officials that he wants to come once more towards the end of this year to talk further to Egyptian society about its role in promoting peace with Israel.
