Ahmed Nawar
|
IN HIS latest exhibition veteran draughtsman Ahmed Nawar uses computer-retouched prints to vary both the look and meaning of his black-and-white drawings, falsifying and reconfirming the signifying practices associated with a wide array of folk symbols. Under the title of The Mountain of Abu-Ghoniem, a mythical place thought to embody a wide variety of political and cultural references, Nawar offers us the palm of a hand, the boat, the flag, anchored in an interminable series of phrases reflecting on both the subject matter and the process of depiction.
