THE EGYPTIAN office for tourist promotion in South Africa has published an on-line tourist magazine at www.egypt.co.za. The web-zine reviews the most important tourist trends in the country, as well as current events, both ar-haeological and social. This is the first issue of the on-line magazine and it concentrates on the development of Sinai air-orts at Saint Catherine, Taba and Al-Tor, expected to allevi-te the pressure on arrival halls.German interest
WHEN Mamdouh El-Beltagui, the minister of tourism, met recently with a number of German tour operators at the ITB travel fair in Berlin, Egypt was again hailed as a prime tourist destination. Tour operators were optimistic about the in-reasing number of Germans planning visits in the coming seasons, but they voiced concern about the capacity of airports and "the problem of overbooking" in hotels. Tour operators la-ented overcrowdedness at two airports in particular -- Hur-hada and Sharm Al-Sheikh. El-Beltagui assured them that steps were being taken to rectify the situation. El-Beltagui has requested that officials from the hotel supervision sector be sent to investigate hotels in Sharm Al-Sheikh and Hurghada and take appropriate action with regard to overbooking.More flights
LUFTHANSA has increased the number of its flights to Egypt starting 26 March, when the German carrier added four weekly flights on the Cairo-Frankfurt route, bringing its total to 14 flights a week. Passengers travelling from Alexandria are also benefiting from a wider choice, as the carrier has in-reased its weekly flights from three to five."We are delighted that we are able to offer the Egyptian mar-et the extra capacity which they have been requesting for some time," commented Werner Heesen, Lufthansa's general manag-r of passenger sales in Egypt. The increasing demand is attrib-ted to the growing trade relations and an upsurge in tourism.
Abercrombie meeting
DURING the general assembly meeting of the group of com-anies of Abercrombie and Kent, Minister of Tourism Mam-ouh El-Beltagui met with the head of the group, Geoffery Kent, who expressed admiration for the progress taking place in various fields in Egypt, especially in the tourist sector. Kent said that his company is particularly interested in the con-truction of new luxury resorts in remote undeveloped areas designed for well-off travellers. He disclosed that Aber-rombie and Kent was considering further tourist expansion of this category in Egypt.Compiled by Rehab Saad
