Adli Rizkalla
|
AT THE Picasso Gallery in Zamalek, veteran painter Adli Rizkalla exhibits approximately 100 watercolours demonstrating an impressive variety of approaches and a commendable technical prowess. Rizkalla's distinctive palette plays the central role in these paintings, in which what he does with water colours can be compared to what musicians do with musical instruments. Yet intellectual content, though not paramount, is not altogether absent in these paintings. In Rizkalla's visual repertory Egyptian symbols like the pyramid, the crescent and the cross acquire a potent, intellectually stimulating dimension, though the "message" of his art remains primarily one of colour, shade and depth.
