Lecture
Today 11 May, at the Netherlands-Flemish Institute (NVIC), Edwin C Brock, codirector of the 1992 Amenmeses project and a member of the Theban mapping project of AUC, will give a lecture titled "The Tomb of Amenmeses, KV10: A Report on Recent Investigations and Discoveries." The lecture will focus on eight seasons of work and discuss evidence of the tomb's history. The tomb of the little-known 19th-dynasty ruler Amenmeses was filled with flood debris for over a century, but when it was last investigated by Eugene Lefebure in 1883, evidence was found of its reuse by two royal women, Takhat and Baketwerel. By the time the current project began, nearly all traces of this reuse had disappeared.
The Netherlands-Flemish Institute's lectures begin at 5.30pm sharp

The American Research Centre in Egypt (ARCE) organises trips to historic sites in Egypt. The centre is arranging a two-day trip to Alexandria on 12 and 13 May. The first day of the tour will include a visit to the Graeco-Roman Museum, the Catacombs, the Roman Amphitheatre and the Roman mosaics at the Villa of the Birds, restored recently by the Egyptian Antiquities Project of ARCE. The next day visit will include a walk at the Royal Gardens of the Montazah Palace and the Royal Tea Garden, as well as visits to the Jewellery Museum, the Institute of Nautical Archaeology and Qait Bay Fort.
For reservations and more information, call ARCE at 794 8239 or 795 8683; Fax 795 3052.

The Italian Institute of Culture in Cairo (IICC) is organising a trip to Wadi Al-Rayan on 12 May. A natural protectorate in Fayoum about 140 kilometres from Cairo, Wadi Al-Rayan is a semi-desert area with two artificial lakes dug in the 1970s. The area is rich in rare animal-life: gazelle, foxes, wild pigs and cats, as well as 121 kinds of birds and fossilised animals.
Upon reaching Wadi Al-Rayan, the Italian rover will accompany tourists to different places in the area with Jeeps.
