Lecture
Following up lectures earlier this month at the Netherlands-Flemish Institute (NVIC), a lecture will be given by Cynthia May Sheikholeslami on 25 May entitled "A Cache De-cached: The Priests of Montu at Deir Al-Bahari." The mystery of the original burials of these priests will be unravelled and their role in the royal cult of the period discussed. Attractively decorated coffins and sarcophagi have always had an important place in the collections of artefacts from Pharaonic Egypt. One now nearly-forgotten group, once displayed at the original museum of Cairo in Bulaq (opened in 1863), belonged to the priests of Montu, active in Thebes between 750 and 656 BC. The group was later mistakenly attributed to the cache at Deir Al-Bahari. Sheikholeslami carried out her research at AUC.The Netherlands-Flemish Institute's lectures begin at 5.30pm sharp
