At the Kamal Khalifa Hall in the Gezira Arts Complex opposite the Gezira Club in Zamalek, Hala Khawwas exhibits her latest innovations. Making use of everyday fabric, the artist achieves an expressiveness comparable to that of painting. Although she is largely successful in intimating the sometimes decorative, often mythological forms to which she has devoted her efforts, Khawwas ultimately presents the viewer with more three-dimensional results, multi-surface works on which a number of elements -- shapes, colours, motifs -- of various significance interact in a perpetual dialogue. Definitely worth a look or two.
