TO OPEN on 2 September, the 12th Youth Salon will incorporate works by spontaneous artists, for the first time in the history of the event, presenting a range of material that transcends the bounds of any one theme. The salon will nonetheless keep to its usual categories, the total prize money amounting to LE77,000. Yet the importance of the salon, the significance of the prizes as incentives notwithstanding, resides in its ability to support younger artists, propelling them into the art scene and, in some cases, following their careers through. The works submitted so far (see left) are very promising, but we have yet to see the full impact of the salon once it opens its doors.
