How to get there

If the heat's getting to you, you're probably planning on joining the summer exodus to Egypt's Mediterranean and Red Sea Coasts. Following is the low-down on getting from A to B.

Buses

Super Jet, East Delta and West Delta buses operate throughout Egypt. All buses are air-conditioned.

Super Jet

Super Jet stations are located in Almaza (Heliopolis), Torgoman (Tahrir), Giza and Cairo Airport. Buses travel to Alexandria, Northern Coast, Hurghada and Sinai. Tel. 266 0212

Cairo-Alexandria

Services almost every half hour from 5.30am to 11.00pm. Tickets LE20 in the morning; LE22 thereafter.

Cairo-Northern Coast

Six services a day almost every hour starting from 7.00am. Tickets LE22 to Agami, LE28 to Maraqia and Marina and LE33 to Sidi Abdel-Rahman.

Cairo-Marsa Matrouh

Three services a day: 7.00am, 7.30am and 8.00am. Tickets LE37.

Cairo-Hurghada

Services at 7.30am, 8.00am, 12.00 noon, 2.00pm and 11.00pm. Tickets LE47 until 5.00pm; LE50 thereafter.

Cairo-Sharm Al-Sheikh

Service at 11.00pm. Tickets LE54.

West Delta

West Delta stations are located in Almaza, Torgoman and Giza. Buses travel to Alexandria, Northern Coast and Marsa Matrouh. Tel. 243 6038

Cairo-Alexandria

Services almost every half hour from 5.30am to 11.00pm. Tickets LE16; LE20 for double-decker buses.

Cairo-Northern Coast

There are 14 services to the Northern Coast starting from 6.00am to 10.00pm. Tickets LE28 to Sidi Kreir and LE33 to Marina.

Cairo-Marsa Matrouh

Two services a day at 6am and 5pm. Tickets LE33; LE36 for double-deckers.

East Delta

East Delta stations are located in Almaza and Torgoman. Buses travel to Sharm Al-Sheikh, Arish and Rafah. Tel. 576 2293

Cairo-Sharm Al-Sheikh

Services almost every two hours. Tickets LE40 for morning services for Egyptians and LE50 for foreigners; LE50 for night services for Egyptians and LE55 for foreigners.

Cairo-Arish

Services start from 7.30am until 4.00pm. Tickets LE24 for Egyptians; LE35 for foreigners.

Cairo-Rafah

Service at 7.30am. Tickets LE26 for Egyptians; LE35 for foreigners.

Trains

Trains run to Alexandria, Luxor and Aswan from Ramsis station. Tel. 147 or 575 3555

Cairo-Luxor-Aswan

"French" deluxe trains with sleepers.

Services to Luxor and Aswan: 7.30am, 12.00 noon and 9.00pm. Tickets to Luxor first class LE65; second class LE31. Tickets to Aswan first class LE69; second class LE38.

"Spanish" deluxe trains without sleepers.

Services to Luxor and Aswan: 6.45pm, 8.45pm and 10.00pm. Tickets to Luxor first class LE60; second class LE36. Tickets to Aswan first class LE69; second class LE38.

Cairo-Alexandria

"French" trains

Services at 8.30am, 9.30am and 11.00pm. Tickets first class LE23; second class LE14.

"Spanish" trains

Services at 9.00am and 12.00 noon. Tickets first class LE22; second class LE18

EgyptAir

There are between two and five domestic flights daily to Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada and Sharm Al-Sheikh. For the summer season, EgyptAir adds flights to Marsa Matrouh, Arish and Taba. Check EgyptAir: (Abbasiya) 682 3271; (Heliopolis) 290 4528; (Zamalek) 347 5193.

Cairo-Aswan

Round-trip tickets LE356 for Egyptians; LE1160 for foreigners.

Cairo-Luxor

Round-trip tickets LE264 for Egyptians; LE842 for foreigners.

Cairo-Hurghada

Round-trip tickets LE279 for Egyptians; LE915 for foreigners.

Cairo-Sharm Al-Sheikh

Round-trip tickets LE287 for Egyptians; LE964 for foreigners.

Cairo-Marsa Matrouh

Three trips a week on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Round-trip tickets LE235 for Egyptians; LE890 for foreigners.

Cairo-Arish

Two trips a week on Mondays and Thursdays. Round-trip tickets LE235 for Egyptians; LE890 for foreigners.

Cairo-Taba

Two trips a week on Mondays and Thursdays. Round-trip tickets LE299 for foreigners; LE1,090 for foreigners.
