O God

Sir-I could imagine a twelve-year old Palestinian boy praying to God and saying, "O God, why is all this happening to us? Why did the Israelis kill my father and my brother? You know, God, I loved them so dearly. Do the Jews really believe in You, You, the most merciful and the most compassionate? If they do, how come they are so ruthless and merciless? Why don't they give us our land and our rights? Why can't they let us live in peace? I just don't understand it. O God, I am just a little boy and they make me go through all this pain and suffering. How can I ever survive in a world full of such hatred, prejudice and injustice? How can I live in a world where might replaces right and hat red replaces love? How can I ever believe again in the power of smiles, hugs, a hand squeeze, truth, justice, peace, freedom, dreams and mankind? O God, hasn't the world become an awful place? O God, I know you are there and I know that you know all the answers and that things aren't always what they seem. I know that every outcome will finally be to our advantage, O God, please don't be late."

Sir-Yesterday, Wednesday 15th of November, at 2.30 pm, I submitted my subscription for the Al-Ahram Weekly to be delivered to my home, the employee at the subscription department was not able to take the money as the cashier had closed for the day. He however promised that, all will be OK as he had entered my name as a subscriber and that I should comeback on Thursday to pay.
To my great surprise and astonishment, at 7.00am this morning, Thursday, I found the paper in front of my door. That is service with a capital S, nowhere in the world, with all the modern and sophisticated technologies have I been able to get subscriptions to publications effected as rapidly (less than 17 hours) as you have done and without having even paid for it.

Correction

Sir-In Al-Ahram Weekly's economy pages (16-22 November 2000), under the title "Euro-tourism" we read that the euro will be in circulation in bank note from next January. Actually it will be in circulation in January 2002.
And in the same issue on Travel page you mentioned that the original island of Philae now lies beneath Lake Nasser. Actually it is located in a small lake formed by the Aswan Dam below the High Dam.
