Sir- I have been following the articles of Edward Said. I really support him in his campaign to enlighten the Arabs about American Zionism and the Israeli historical lies. I would like to tell him that his writings are inspiring to me and a group of my fellow university students. There are not many of us, but we are trying to be effective. We would like to tell him: "Sir, your efforts are not in vain. Soon, you will see the day when every young Arab knows the truth about our real history, without lies or deception. We will unite in our efforts to confront Zionism and obtain our rights." It is at least a dream worth trying for.Adam Saad

Sir- On a recent visit to a supermarket in Mohandessin, situated in a crowded street, I was asked by a stranger to pay a parking fee of LE1, which he claimed was levied by the supermarket itself. If it is true that the supermarket is charging a parking fee, then the business should be fined for illegally making a profit off of a public street. Now, if the stranger was dispensing lies to make a quick buck, then the police should pick him up for running a scam. In either case, there is a widespread problem which continues to go by untreated. I actually saw a sign in front of another market in Doqqi, again referring to a parking fee on an equally busy street.Are the local municipalities selling our public streets to big businesses? If not, why is an in-your-face scam ignored by the local authorities?

Digging deeper
Sir- Thank you for giving us a newspaper that tells us what is really happening in Palestine. The press generally (the exception being the Christian Science Monitor) is so supportive of Israel that one has to dig deeply to get an inkling of the truth. I particularly like the cartoon of President Clinton pleading with Barak. We shame ourselves by their behaviour.Richard Keeble
