Nourishment for young minds
THE 17TH CAIRO International Children's Book Fair was inaugurated by Mrs Suzanne Mubarak on Saturday at the Exhibition Grounds in Nasr City. This year, 686 publishers from 47 countries are participating and 2.8 million books are on display. The fair will run until 6 February.
On a tour of the exhibition wings, Mrs Mubarak heard from Minister of Culture Farouq Hosni on the Family Library project, whose wing includes an encyclopedia of ancient Egypt, the works awarded the Suzanne Mubarak Children's Literature Prize and works published by the Egyptian General Book Authority. Mrs Mubarak also visited the wing of the Al-Ahram Organisation, where Al-Ahram board chairman and Editor-in-Chief Ibrahim Nafie briefed her on the institution's activities and its future vision in the field of children's books.
The inauguration was attended by the ministers of information, education, economy, youth and the environment, as well as the governor of Cairo.
