* An exhibition of drawings and paintings from Aswan and Nubia by ophthalmologist and multi-talented artist Farid Fadel will be inaugurated by Culture Minister Farouk Hosni and head of the National Sector of Fine Arts Ahmed Nawwar at the Akhenaton Hall of the Centre of Arts in Zamalek, on 28 January. The opening will be attended by Minister of the Environment Nadia Makram Ebeid in addition to the ambassadors of the US, Austria, Australia, Sweden, Germany, Ireland and France, to mention but a few. The show, running until 15 February, is titled "Dreams of the South" and will comprise 50 oil and water colour paintings depicting the beauty of Aswan's nature and Nile. It will also display portraits of Nubian youths. Fadel's collection reflects his infatuation with Upper Egypt after seven years of frequent visits. On the sidelines of the exhibition, a classical music concert will be presented featuring the American pianist Patricia McDonald.

* For the first time in the Cairo Opera House's history, Mexican maestro Felix CarrascoM will conduct the Cairo Symphony Orchestra at the Main Hall, on 27 January. The concert, featuring the renowned pianist Moushira Issa, will offer a variety of compositions by Beethoven, Mahler and Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Fattah. Abdel-Fattah will present nine miniature compositions for string orchestra.
There is more good opera news: on Sunday, soprano Tahiya Shamseddin will feature in two concerts in Rome, along with her brother pianist Mohamed Shamseddin. |
