Opportunities galore
OVER 3,700 local and foreign companies from 73 countries displayed their products at the 34th annual Trade Fair inaugurated by President Hosni Mubarak at the Cairo International Fairgrounds last week. The seven-day expo comprised pavilions representing several Arab, European and US ventures.
For the first time, the government-organised venue has vied with private sector-sponsored exhibits in facilitating networking opportunities for businessmen.
Lectures were also organised by different chambers of commerce addressing issues related to export, trade promotion and free trade arrangements, especially in the Arab region.
During the opening tour, Prime Minister Atef Ebeid said that the cabinet this week would discuss a "new programme to export 15 new categories of commodities, as part of an overall plan to raise the total volume of Egyptian exports from $5 billion to $15 billion within five years."
Also represented at the fair were small and medium enterprises, young exporters and private sector ventures from the industrial communities.
Conference organisers expressed their hope that the progress made by Egyptian manufacturing and agricultural production companies would help them gain a greater market share, thereby offsetting the current slump.
