Zamalek's triple
ZAMALEK won its third major handball trophy this month, all coming after wins against famed opponents Ahli. The latest Zamalek prize was the cup, won this week following a 24-23 nail-biter. Last month, Zamalek took the league title and the super league, both coming at Ahli's expense. The 29-21 super league victory allowed Zamalek to qualify for the Arab clubs championship in Jeddah.
Ahli's woes continued even in friendly games. The club was unable to win any of its three local warm-up matches leading up to the African clubs champions cup scheduled to take place later this month in Morocco. Ahli will now take its act abroad, in Hungary, where it will play three more friendlies against teams from the premier league.
Zamalek, too, will play a friendly against the UAE's Al-Ein club before flying to Syria for an international championship. The two Egyptian clubs are also gearing up for the second super league tournament to be held in Port Said next month
