WALKING ON THE MOON: Once the "forgotten oasis," Bahariya is taking its place on the tourist map. Besides the Golden Mummies -- the most obvious attraction -- it offers temples, hot springs and music-filled evenings. Beyond lies the White Desert, which enfolds such secrets as Crystal Mountain, revealing them only to the most intrepid of explorers. Landing in this surreal moonscape, desert pilgrims must feel that nature designed the spellbinding scenery for them alone -- until the other four-wheel drives appear among the rock formations, bringing the solitary explorers back to earth
