More mummies
THE BAHARIYA oasis has yielded a rich harvest in mummies. Early this week, archaeologists discovered two more mummies, of a man and a nine-year-old child, inside a sarcophagus in Al-Sheikh Subi. Gaballa Ali Gaballa, general-secretary of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said that early studies on both mummies revealed that they are of members of Bahariya's 26th dynasty governor's family. They are well-preserved, reflecting the mummification skills of the Saities era. A collection of gold fragments was also unearthed beside the two mummies.

Zahi Hawass, director general of the Giza plateau and Bahariya oasis, said that this find makes seven mummies discovered from the governor's family. He was hopeful that the remainder would be discovered in the near future.
